Global leaders group on antimicrobial resistance recommendations to address the antibiotic pipeline and access crisis in human health

  26 February 2024

The Global Leaders Group (GLG) on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) discussed the antibiotic pipeline and access crisis, focusing on human antibiotics. The crisis is characterized by diminishing effectiveness, limited global access, and insufficient research and development for innovative antibiotics. The GLG believes antibiotics should be considered global public goods, promoting collective action to address the crisis. However, new incentives for antibiotic R&D and access are still in their infancy. A cooperative, multi-entity approach is needed to stimulate R&D and safeguard access to antibiotics. The GLG has made six recommendations for global action, including financial and non-financial solutions, to address the crisis and promote global action.
